It appears that hard labor is highly valued in modern American society. Now, pushing yourself to work hard is perfectly acceptable. However, what if our culture as a whole gets fixated on pushing oneself and aiming higher? Why, after all, does society ask us to put forth so much effort only to purchase the latest fashions? We shall eventually exhaust ourselves. Otherwise, we’ll feel bad about wasting time and taking breaks. Like me, you probably expect yourself to be productive all the time because that’s what our culture seems to encourage. However, this is not how people live in other nations. In other counties, people genuinely stop to smell the roses. They take pauses and enjoy life because it’s their way of life, not because they deserve it. What if we adopted a lifestyle of enjoying life? Does anyone ever express a desire to have more possessions or to have worked more while near death? No, they wish they had pursued their aspirations and spent it with their loved ones. What if we adopted a different attitude that prioritized leisure and enjoyment over constant productivity? Now, I’m not advocating for indolence or telling you to abandon your job. All I’m trying to convey is that you should enjoy life now rather than waiting till you’re elderly because we can’t be sure of tomorrow. Reduce your workload, slow down, and spend more time with your loved ones. Or consider eschewing all of the essential devices and technologies in favor of discovering new methods to unwind and enjoy life. Try putting down your computer or phone, stepping away from the television, and doing something that is utterly pointless, inconvenient, and a waste of time. Just because you like it!
Because time is the one thing you can never get back. Take the time to enjoy the small things in life rather than letting time pass you by. Try not to stress about keeping up with the Joneses. You will ultimately be happy that you made the time to appreciate EVERYTHING, not just the small things.
